Twin Sphere Joint (FTC) Rubber Expansion Joint
ASHFLEX® Twin-Sphere Rubber Expansion Joint (FTC) is designed to absorb vibration, reduce noise and accommodate controlled movement in industrial piping systems.
Its dual-sphere construction provides greater flexibility and lower spring rates than a comparable single-sphere joint. This allows improved axial, lateral and angular movement while reducing vibration and mechanical stress transmitted from pumps, compressors and other rotating equipment.
Typical Construction
- Rubber Body: EPDM, NBR, neoprene or another application-specific elastomer
- Reinforcement: Multiple layers of high-tensile synthetic textile cord
- Internal Support: Steel-wire or reinforcing rings, depending on size and pressure rating
- End Connections: Carbon steel, galvanised steel, SS304 or SS316 flanges
- Alternative Connections: Threaded-union configurations available for selected sizes
- Design: Twin-sphere flexible rubber body
- Working Pressure: Up to 16 Bar, depending on size, temperature and construction
- Temperature Range: -20°C to +120°C, depending on the selected rubber compound
- Movement: Axial compression, axial extension, lateral and angular movement
- Accessories: Control rods, tie rods and protective covers available
Rubber Material Selection
- EPDM: Water, hot water, weather, ozone and many mild chemical applications
- NBR: Oil, fuel and petroleum-based fluid applications
- Neoprene: Weather, moderate oil and general industrial service
- Custom Compounds: Available according to the transferred medium and operating conditions
Key Features
✅ Twin-sphere design for greater movement
✅ Lower spring rate than comparable single-sphere joints
✅ Excellent vibration and noise absorption
✅ Helps isolate pumps and rotating equipment
✅ Accommodates controlled thermal movement
✅ EPDM, NBR and neoprene options
✅ Carbon steel and stainless steel flange options
✅ Working pressure up to 16 Bar
✅ Control rods and accessories available
✅ Custom sizes and configurations available
Typical Applications
- HVAC and chilled-water systems
- Chillers and cooling towers
- Pumping and booster stations
- Water-treatment facilities
- Chemical and petrochemical plants
- Marine and offshore piping
- Power-generation facilities
- Industrial cooling-water systems
- Oil-transfer systems with suitable NBR construction
- Connections to pumps, compressors and machinery
Important: Rubber material must be selected according to the exact transferred medium, concentration, temperature and operating conditions. One rubber compound is not suitable for every water, oil, chemical or gas application.
Engineering Notice: Expansion joints generate pressure thrust and require properly designed anchors, guides and supports. Control rods may be required when adequate anchoring is unavailable or when movement must be limited.
